Memory Verse Monday | (John 14:27) The Gift Of Peace

Today is Monday, our #mvm (memory verse monday), and as much as I want this to be a fun and encouraging post, my heart is broken. In the wake of the horrific mass shooting in Las Vegas, I want to share a verse of encouragement.

My heart breaks for the victims of this gruesome event and I grieve with those who lost loved ones. Having lost a brother in a freak accident, the sting of loss never fully subsides and it takes time to recover from the shock of it all. I pray that those affected will find support in their communities and churches.

John 14:27 says,

“I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.”

The Gift of Peace.

There’s so much I want to say to comfort those hurting today- but my words continue to fall flat.

Christ left us with the gift of peace. Peace of mind and peace of heart- even when the world around us seems to crumble and we’re left shaking in our boots. The world will not give us the peace we desire, it is only in Christ that we will find the peace that calms our souls.

There’s no better time than the present to come together and comfort each other.

Hug your loved ones a little closer today. Send a text and tell someone you love them. Take comfort in knowing that we aren’t alone in this and we trust in a God bigger than all of these mass-shooting monsters.

This week I am giving to God:
The city of Las Vegas. That the the victims and families would find comfort in this devastating time.

Until next time,

Emily Heart

  1. Thank you for the encouraging words! It can be hard to see God through all the tragedy and believe he’s really alive in this terrifying world. This verse reminds us why we may experience tragedy, and that God will provide us the peace we need.
