I’m drinking my 6th cup of coffee, I think, and I’m excited to share this week’s memory verse! It’s great reminder to stop trying to fix problems on our own.
Our verse this week is:
Proverbs 3:5 (NLT) “Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding.”
I don’t know about you, but all too often, I forget that God wants to be a part of my entire life. He wants to know the little things, He desires to help guide us through difficult times. He wants us to run to him first when things get tough.
When we depend on our own abilities and our own strength, we will consistently fail.
Choosing to trust His ways will always be better than trying to do it ourselves. His plans for us are perfect. When I look at all the times God has come through for me, I am overwhelmed. Time after time, He shows up. It may not be in my timing, but it is always at the right time. Even now, after all He has done for me, I still have to remind myself of his goodness because I still fail to trust Him first.
This verse holds a great lesson for those of us who are engaged or married. We cannot make a marriage work on our own. We need God to intervene and help us navigate this new (or old) relationship. Honestly, I don’t know if I would have made it this far in my marriage if I didn’t cling tightly to God’s promises. A lot of friends said I should leave hubs after one big financial argument. Thankfully, I didn’t. But, I see now why divorce is such a problem in our society. The option to “peace out” can be so tempting when times get tough.
When you are faced with a problem in your relationship, friendship, or personal life, what is your first reaction? Do you instantly go to God and ask for wisdom? Or do you try to figure things out on your own? Think about that this week as you ponder this verse. Write it out on a sticky to remind yourself daily to rely on Him!
Make sure to check in later this week as I share my favorite ways to study the Bible as a couple and on my own. Until next time, PEACE!
